Description

 Join our Fort Discovery Before & After School department for the Fort Osage School District.  This position is an 5.75 hours a day position, split between an AM and a PM shift (before and after school hours).  This position provides vacation, personal and sick time.  

 

Pay for the 2024-2025 school year begins at $14.70 per hour (starting July 1), but steps on the scale are determined based on previous related childcare experiences. 

 

Purpose

The job of Child Care Assistant is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting Site Coordinator with planning and implementation of program; organizing and directing age-appropriate activities for school age students before and after school; serving snacks; providing assistance with homework; and assisting in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment for students.

        

This job reports to Child Care Site Coordinator and/or Director - Child Care

 

Essential Functions

  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. medication, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
  • Alerts site coordinator to needs (e.g. of students, equipment, materials, snacks, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items to carry out planned program activities.
  • Assists the site coordinator with organizing and monitoring appropriate activities (e.g. games, art, music, crafts, holiday themes, science, language, nutrition, playground, washing hands, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing play and academic concepts.
  • Communicates with parents of program students and teachers and staff of the host school for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and cultivating supportive relationships.
  • Delivers children directly from/to parents, guardians, or designee for the purpose of ensuring safety of children and meeting established custodial guidelines.
  • Distributes instructional and/or play materials for the purpose of providing required supplies for planned activities.
  • Maintains program equipment and work areas (e.g. toys, bulletin boards, games, instructional tools, computers, site facility, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing a safe learning environment.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings and movement to and from designated areas (e.g. snack time, group or individual game time, playground, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Operates standard school equipment (e.g. computers, laminator, copier, audio visual, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in the implementation of planned activities.
  • Organizes indoor/outdoor, quiet/active play activities and games appropriate to age group and actively participating in learning activities with children for the purpose of enriching student experiences in curriculum and recreation.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. daily and long range activity planning, training programs administered or scheduled by the Fort Osage R-1 School District, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares logs, reports, and documents (e.g. attendance reports, monthly lesson plans, supply lists, behavioral/accident reports, snack counts, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information, providing written reference, and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Supports site coordinator for the purpose of providing assistance with their clerical functions, overall functions and responsibilities.

 

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling,  frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 40% walking, and 30% standing. 

    

The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.

    

Experience:  Job related experience is desired.

    

Education:  High school diploma or equivalent.
